GRACE, you are on the move! you army crawl to get what you'd like and if you don't feel up to it you yell.
it's delightful.
some other happy learnings: you have begun to try to sing along with me and it comes out blahblah bah bah gah gah gah dah dah but it is wonderful.
you like to hit things together to make noise when there is music of any kind, and you are just beginning to splash in the tub.
you are pulling yourself up on things (or trying to rather) and it's been causing all sorts of bumps and bruises for you, even if i'm right there- you'll take a nose dive into the carpet or the table and look back at me like "how could you let that happen?!"
you are mastering the sippy cup, you'd rather throw it around than drink out of it and you loooove finger foods. especially pulled pork with bbq sauce. you suck it in and lick your fingers of all the sauce.
on saturday last week you woke up with a bloody ear so i took you to the doctors and he said your EARDRUM had burst!!!! i just about screamed. you didn't complain at all, so i had no idea. i thought you had just scratched your ear and made it bleed! (which you had done before and i took you to the doc and he said you were just congested)
anyhow, you are now on strawberry amoxicillin but you seem to be feeling just fine, no crying no fussiness, you are a trooper.
AND your first top tooth is coming in! (the right one facing you) (your left one) all this is happening in one week!
you are a champion baby.
you are so smiley and you hate being left alone. you like to play with the fridge letter magnets and the xylaphone. your favorite thing to do is get into trouble.
i looked over at you the other day and somehow you had gotten into a box of tissues and was pulling them out and ripping them up into tiny tiny pieces all over yourself.
you looked like a little snowman.
you are taking naps in your crib finally! so i dont have to worry about you falling out of bed or anything.
on sunday you were introduced to your very first baby doll (actually it was your cousin bella's and she left it at grandmas)
you were in LOVE with her. you would pat her head and squeeel and hug her and touch her face. it's amazing how i can already see you will be such a wonderful mom (if the time comes for you)
you also have developed a love for hair. you think my hair is so funny. i tickle your face with it and you pull and pull and then try to feed it to me.
you are such a sweet baby. your hair is getting so long and you are wearing 18 month and 9 month old clothes. you just turned 8 months on sunday.
your favorite thing to do in church is stand on the pew and look back at everybody, especially the babies.
you are not shy about burping or farting. which i find particularly hilarious. (i'll grow up before you i promise)
i love you little girl, it is a wonder to watch you discover this world for yourself.
love,
mom

twenty six?
dear grace,
do i need to say you are growing too fast? on the 17th of january you began army crawling, saying 'ma ma ma' AND sat up by yourself. you were pleasantly surprised by it too. you also have problems with me going out of your line of vision and promptly begin to yell. we don't like that development too much but i'm going to take it as a compliment. you are truly inconsolable without your mother. you also yell in between bites of food, demanding MORE MORE MORE! with the trial of new ffood comes the sad discovery that you get diaper rash with some solid foods more than others. you are learning how to pinch your pointer and thumb finger together, so you pick up small pieces of food and put them in your mouth- but you don't know to let GO of the food yet so you pull your hand back out with the food still in it and look very confused. you raise your eyebrows up and down and make wonderful expressions. you take your vitamins without complaint and the only thing you don't like is getting your nose sucked out before bedtime. me blowing my nose terrifies you, you startle and then you faceplant trying to crawl to me as fast as you can. you aren't sure about the vacuum cleaner anymore... and the hairdryer is confusing. since you have become more aware of your surroundings you are WIGGLY OH MY GOODNESS. you are never NEVER still. you twist and turn and bounce and try to pull yourself up on EVERYTHING. you can't yet, thank goodness but it wont be long. i had a melt down the other day and cried and you just pulled on my leg until i lifted you up and then you looked straight into my face very seriously and stuck your forehead against mine. you did this over and over again until i stopped crying. it was very sweet.
well darling, you are learning a lot and doing wonderfully at it. i love to watch you. if i had endless space in the world i would want to record every second of your life and replay it over and over again. i don't want to forget any part of you.
you've been my only/very best friend these days gracie. that's a big burden for a little 8 month old (almost) to carry.
i love you.

twenty five
dear grace,
I know it sounds repetitive but you are growing too fast. I can hardly keep up with all you are learning and trying to do each day but I'll try hard to write some of your newest tricks.
You make a kissy face at everyone. you tilt your chin up and stick out those lips for a pucker and kind of make me die inside because you are adorable. i tell you to save your kisses but you are pretty persistent with your loving and free. you are learning all sorts of other fun things with your facial expressions like putting your eyebrows up, or just sticking your tongue out and blowing bubbles. you smile constantly and are a happy baby in general.
you are just an easy wonderful go lucky baby, and we feel very lucky to have you bless our lives every single day.
your laugh is so sweet and always sudden and random. i'm still standing on my head trying to get you to giggle and i'm surprised by what actually makes you laugh!
you are trying very hard to crawl, and i'm sorry i'm not giving you more opportunities, but i like to hold you.
you still stick your arms straight out and wave your hands around in the air whenever you are feeling strong emotions about something. usually when you are nervous or excited. i call them hummingbird hands, they move so fast.
merry first christmas and new years! you are seven months, and gaining independence fast. you will eat pretty much anything we let you, which is why you love grandpa francis because he really will sneak you anything...
it was special to see you meet my side of the family since they are farther away from where we live than brandon's side. you didn't fuss at all the people, i think you really enjoyed being surrounded by lots of loved ones. (i dont blame you, they are sort of awesome) (but i'm biased).
grandma francis put you to sleep almost everynight while we were there and you slept pretty good in your little pink and brown pack and play.
aunt sarah and uncle chris gave you a beautiful cream dress and tights and a hat and mittens.
grandpa and grandma spoiled you with lots of toys
and mom and dad got you a doctor's kit because they are awesome. and i'm afraid we are having as much fun with it as you are.
you've started to mimic sounds and if you are eating and i sing to you you try to sing back while eating.
it's the sweetest thing. ever.
your hair is still very curly on top and long only pretty much on the top. aunt lachelle says your hair is very hip in new york right now. i'm taking full credit.
uncle geoffrey and you bonded over the break, at first he was nervous around you because nobody has shown him how to hold a baby! so i showed him and then he would take you whenever he could. he kept asking you "why are you SO CUTE?!" the whole holiday.
dad kept saying "what child is this?!" in geoff's ron burgendy accent.
overall it was an awesome break.
advice for the future: don't ever be afraid to ask for help. and being afraid of things is usually worse than going out and doing what you're afraid of. and love really does conquer all, so don't take the easy way out. i'm not sure why that took me so long to really understand.
i love you.
out conquering all,
mom
